Leading analyst and founder of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Dr Boniface Aniebonam has given hints that plans are underway to amend the Act establishing the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN).
Before now, the Council had been locked down in council membership election which some stakeholders say was done in bad faith.
According to Aniebonam, the target of the amendment is to enable the president appoint the chairman of the board after constitution.
He was quick to accuse the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) of being responsible for the failure of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) to carry out a successful registration of freight forwarders in the maritime industry due to the agency’s role in tailoring the election to produce more council members from a sister association, the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) to.
He further claimed that since ANLCA had majority seat in the Council, it decided to turn the Regulatory agency to its personal affairs.
In his further submission, he recalled that CRFFN is not an arm of the federal government, but rather an independent organisation set up to drive seamless synchronization of the activities of freight forwarders in the industry.
