More confusion have continued to engulf the whereabouts of the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele as at Saturday morning following a clear denial by the DSS in a terse tweet that “Currently, Emefiele is not with the DSS.”
Recall that pursuant to his suspension, Emefiele was directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), Adebisi Sonubi, who will act as the CBN governor pending the conclusion of the investigation and the reforms.
Unconfirmed reports emerged late on Friday that operatives of the Department of State Services had arrested the suspended CBN governor, but the latest tweet by the security body said “Currently, Emefiele is not with the DSS.”
Recall that a rumour had even before the end of Buhari administration emerged claiming that; him being aware of the fact that ‘a Pharaoh that knows not Joseph is coming’, he had moved his family away out of the country in readiness to run away as soon as Buhari hands over.
This rumour was further buttressed by another which claimed also that he has hurriedly applied for sudden study leave all in efforts to escape possible arrest as soon as new government is in place.
