Recall that President Tinubu had in a statement issued by the Director, Information, State House, Abiodun Oladunjoye in Abuja on Friday, announced the appointment of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila as the Chief of Staff (CoS), and Senator Ibrahim Hadejia, a former Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, as the Deputy Chief of Staff and former Governor of Benue State, Senator George Akume as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF)..

On Gbajabiamila’s appointment and leadership quality, Business Hilights  recalls that Hon. Johnson had in an interview published in 2019 (https://businesshilights.com.ng/2019/08/08/inclusive-leadership-style-secret-of-gbajabiamilas-success-hon-ganiyu-johnson/), described the House leadership style of the outgoing Speaker as superb and good for the nation.

Excerpts from the 2019 interview read as follows:

“The buildup that produced the current House leadership was based on inclusive partnership.

He explained that “By inclusive partnership; I am talking about all the political parties being involved and that is why even in his House Committees appointments, he extended it to all political parties because he told the house that he wanted a kind of reform, and he has started very well with that reform.

“Even in the floor of the house, he allowed virtually every member who is willing to speak; he allowed them to speak, because we are all representing different constituencies irrespective of party affiliation.

“So I must give that credit to him. And in the distribution of committees, he also ensured the same pattern unlike in the past, because you are the majority, you will have to corner most of the committee. He followed a matured pattern based on inclusive approach to leadership.

Continuing, the former Commissioner of Works and Infrastructure in Lagos State added that “Upon coming from Lagos State, Hon Gbajabiamila did not say that because he is from Lagos, he will give Lagos Reps juicy committees. I for example, I am a practical example, I am not vice chairman of any committee, I am no chairman of any committee, I am just a member of the parliament.

According to him, “So, this for me is laying a good foundation for the future so that subsequently, when other people get there that is if they are made, if they are chosen to be the speaker of the house would emulate.”
