Just in: DStv, GOtv hike monthly subscription rate by 170%

At a time Nigerians are decrying the continuity of monthly subscription rather than pay-as-you-go which obtains in other economies where the South Africa Company, Multichoice operates, the company few hours ago, sent SMS to their subscribers in Nigeria, announcing over 170% subscription rate increase.
For instance, a text message to a DStv customers, said from May 1, 2023. The pay-tv firm said the price adjustment was due to the rising costs of business operations. “Please note that from May 1, your monthly subscription (premium) will be N24,500.
Another SMS sighted by Business Hilights sent to GOtv subscribers read in parts: “Dear GOgetter, Please note due to rising cost of business operations, your monthly subscription from May 1, 2023, will be N4,850. Thank you.”
The customer who received the above SMS said he has been on GOtv Jolly which he pays N2,800.
Multichioce has been in the habit of increasing rate in May. For instance in 2017, Multichoice announced that as from 1st of May 2017, DStv and GOtv subscription rates will increase. The increase in the rate is by 5%.
Nigerians are yet to react as the announcement has just been made few hours ago and many are yet to be on the know.
