Anambra/Delta Govt set up taskforce for seamless traffic on 2nd Niger Bridge
Pursuant to the planned opening of the completed second Niger Bridge to vehicular traffic effective December 15, 2022, the Delta State Government and Anambra State Government have set-up a Joint Taskforce to control vehicular movement within the stretch of the Benin-Asaba-Onitsha expressway that runs from Asaba International Airport to the Niger Bridge head during this Yuletide Season. This measure is being taken in order to avoid heavy grid locks and enhance easy flow of traffic. To this effect, checkpoints would be located far away from the bridge head, while U-turn points will be minimized.
As a complementary measure, the Second Niger Bridge would be temporarily opened up for use, by light vehicles only from the 15th December, 2022 to 15th January, 2023 to further ease vehicular movement between Delta State and Anambra State.
In an announcement signed by the Secretary to the Delta State Government, Mr. Patrick Ukah, the taskforce averred that “All heavy duty vehicles should continue to use the old Niger Bridge until further notice. Government charges road users, transporters and transport managers to obey traffic rules and regulations so as to avoid traffic jams, accidents and loss of travel time.”
