—Says on completion, over N10bn will be saved yearly
President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote has given assurance that work will effectively begin on the Apapa-Oworonshoki expressway very soon.
He hinted that on delivery, the over N10bn lost annually to container falls and traffic gridlock caused by articulated vehicles will be saved.
Though he was economical with words on the nature of the understanding his company had with the federal government in fixing the road, Business Hilights recalls that the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun had last week explained that “the federal government is not in the habit of giving tax holidays, rather it is willing to partner with private sector operators’ who are ready to fund any road infrastructure and recoup his expenses vide three years tax.
About two months ago, the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola revealed during a seminar organized by BusinessDay Newspapers in Lagos that it is talking with Dangote on how he can come into the Apapa-Oworonshoki road with an understanding that will be worked out by the government that will border on using tax to recoup his investments on the highway over a period of time.
