ECOWAS free movement does not mean no work permit, Fashola explains
Minister for Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has made a clarification on the limits of the prevailing Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Treaty, saying “Free movement into the country does not preclude them from applying for work permits”.
He made the revelation at the second BRF Gabest programme, with the theme, ‘Where are the jobs?’
Fashola said those working without permits would not only be stopped in the coming days, but will be deported.
Though it was clear if the Minister was technically responding to recent massive deportation of Nigerians from Ghana, he was quick to disclose that “Companies handling contracts for my ministry are being audited for legality and work permit”.
Before now, the Federal Government is yet to give a concrete official response to the ongoing deportation of Nigerians by the Ghanaian immigration.
