Leading retail banking group, Fidelity Bank Plc has given insights on why it partnered with Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) and Lagos State Government (LASG) to bankroll the 2017 ‘Walk for Nature’ held recently.
In his remarks at the event the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the bank, Nnamdi Okonkwo, represented by the Bank’s Head, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) & Sustainability, Chris Nnakwe, said time has come for corporate bodies to give priority to environmental issues.
Only recently, the United Nations released a report suggesting that 2017 is the third hottest year in the history of the world due to unprecedented rise in ozone depletion linked to excess global use of fossil fuels and other earth warming activities.
Okonkwo averred that “As a bank, we understand that there is a need to protect the environment in order to secure a healthy and prosperous future for our customers.” This year’s event themed, “Cleaner Lagos: The foundation for sustainable ecotourism”, is designed to create the much needed awareness amongst the Nigerian populace about Wildlife Conservation and Good Environmental Practices.
The bank further maintained that it is committed to sustainable practices that not only help to improve the quality of life of the populace but guarantees the preservation of the environment and the social and cultural values of the communities.
Business Hilights recalls that Fidelity Bank had been taking care of several green projects across major cities in Nigeria.
For some time now, it has been bankrolling the management of the greening the Falomo Roundabout as part of its resolve to deepen green city project and support for the environment.
