Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has approved fresh attractive categories of tax waivers for both existing and potential investors wishing to ply their trade in any part of the state.

Besides, he has also assured to check cases of illegal and multiple taxation and levies that were being complained against in the state either from MDAs or even local governments that are seen as stumbling blocks businesses in the state.

This was explained by the state Commissioner of Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, who told Business Hilights South East Bureau chief in Umuahia that “the new policy will apply 100% on all levies and dues (excluding user fees and PAYE) for new investment in education that will not be less than N500 million in verified value and has a workforce of not less than 100 persons”.

“Also that there will be 100 per cent waiver on all levies and dues (excluding user fees and PAYE) for new investment in manufacturing that will not be less than N500 million in verified value with a workforce of not less than 50 persons.

Before now, there had been rising complaints from industries including Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) over arbitrary charges by government entities in the state.

It would be recalled that few months ago, the state government sponsored the training of about 300 Aba Shoe makers to further technology transfer training in China.
