The president general of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief John Nnia Nwodo, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to review the dredging of River Niger between Warri and Onitsha so that the true import and export potentials of Ndigbo can be actualized.

This is as the Benue State government has called on the Senate to prevail on the Federal Government to quicken the dredging of River Benue in order to curtail annual flooding in the state.

Deputy Governor of the state, Engr. Benson Abounu, made the call on Tuesday in Makurdi when he received the Senate Ad-hoc Committee on Flood led by Senator David Umaru.

He said the senate had the voice to lend to such matter of urgent public importance as he expressed optimism that the federal government would listen and bring the project much talked about by successive government into fruition.

In his welcome address during President Buhari’s first State visit to South East and Ebonyi State in particular, Chief Nwodo told him that the dredging job was still inclusive and that is why the channel is not still in use.

Apart from the pressing need to dredge Niger, he listed federal roads that are unmotorable in the South East.

Responding, President Buhari assured that he will deliver all his election promises to Ndigbo and stressed that Ndigbo remains a blessing to Nigeria and has no need to secede.
