Reactions have started trailing the appointment of former Managing Director of National Inland Waterway Authority (NIWA), Barr Boss Gida Mustapha as the Secretary General of the Federation (SGF) by the presidency on Monday.
NIWA Head Quarters is in Lokoja, Kogi State.
In a telephone interview with the Public Relations Officer of the agency, Mr. Tayo Fadile on Tuesday morning, he told Business Hilights that “The appointment of our boss, Boss Mustapha as the SGF came to us as a shock and also an indication that he has done well at NIWA”.
“He is a very hard working and articulate manager of resources both human and materials. We are going to miss him and we wish him well in his new plum job.
Continuing, Fadile described him as a detribalized Nigerian with very good background and past both in public and private life.
“I think Nigeria will get what they are looking for in an SGF which is service, commitment and timely delivery of assignments,” Fadile said.
On his replacement at NIWA, he revealed that “As its common in civil service, the most senior officer in the rank at NIWA will takeover, pending when a substantive managing director is appointed by Mr. President”.
“Recall that he did not rise in the rank. He was on appointment. So in line with civil service process of headship, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transportation will go through the NIWA service record and find who the cap fits and name him or her while we wait for a substantive MD”.
On Boss Mustapha’s achievements while in NIWA, Fadile said “Within the period, there was high level cohesion and service delivery and this is due to his accessibility and love for standard operating procedures in every official matter”.
It would be recalled that Boss Gida Mustapha was on Monday announced by the federal government as the substantial replacement for the embattled former SGF, Babachir Lawal who was sacked for his complicity in award of contracts for the settlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the North East.
There are clear indications that Lawal who was sacked alongside former director general of Nigeria Intelligence Agency (NIA), Amb. Ayo Oke will be facing prosecution by the anti-graft agencies as soon as possible even though none of them had been arrested or declared wanted.
