The strike embarked upon by staff of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) was on Thursday called off with immediate resumption of official business activities.
The strike was called off on the order of the National Industrial Arbitration Court, Abuja, on July 26. The court ordered AUCPTRE to unblock the premises, to allow staff and business activities to resume. The strike, which started on July 17, lasted for eight working days.
The workers had gone on strike after periods of failed plea with the management to settles issues bordering on non-payment of entitlements and marked disparities in salary structure.
Investigations from a visit to the Lagos and Abuja offices of the CAC showed that they opened for customers and staff were seen carrying out their daily business transactions.
It would be recalled that the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees, the CAC Chapter, had embarked on a warning strike over alleged non-payment of salary arrears on July 17.
As the strike rages, the union blocked the premises of the commission, preventing its top management staff from accessing their offices.
The Chairman of the Staff Union at CAC, Mr. Ibrahim Kirfi, said the strike had been called off on the orders of the court even as the issues still remained unresolved, but workers will keep faith with the court proceedings.
The Commission’s spokesperson, Mr. Godfrey Ike, who confirmed the suspension of the strike said staff were now in their offices working.
