Rising agents’ compliance now reducing time for goods clearance—PTML Customs
Considering the saying that ‘Do the right thing and go on time’ seems to have started playing out at the Ports Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) terminals, Tincan as the Area Controller of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mrs. Modupeola Aremu, has hinted serious drop in time in clearing of cargoes stemming from high compliance by importers and agents with Customs’ rules and regulations.
She said the increasing drop in false declaration and other infractions by importers’ and agents is now spurring timely documentation, examination and release of imported consignments.
According to her, “Their compliance level is increasing because they know that they can get their consignments out in six hours if they do things right. That notwithstanding, we are doing a lot of enlightenment and education to keep them abreast of import and export trade issues such as usage of Information and Communication Technology to reduce human contact as well as deepening their knowledge about modernization”.
“Once your declaration is ready, you may not need to see anybody to get your goods out from this port. We are pursuing and sustaining a tempo of optimum efficiency.”
While believing that the rate of compliance by stakeholders has attained about 70 per cent, she averred that the command’s degree of preparedness for the Federal Government’s Ease of Doing Business policy is 100 per cent.
