Use your comparative advantage to lead others in oil/gas, NPA tells Intels
Though the issue is still pending in a competent court of law, the Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Bala-Usman, has advised the management of Intels Nigeria Limited, core investors at Onne FTZ, Rivers State to rather than seek absolute monopoly, rely on its strong competitive edge over other terminal operators in oil and gas logistics in the country to grow the zone.
Making a strong reference on the issue during a TV interview in Lagos, Usman argued that Intels, having been there for over 30 years has all it takes to drive the narrative in the oil and gas logistics in Nigeria.
Business Hilights recalls that NPA boss had made similar reference during her familiarization tour of Intels facility at Onne Oil and Gas Free Zone shortly after her appointment in October 2016.
Bala-Usman had argued in a statement that “I don’t think they (Intels) should shy away from competing with other terminals. They should welcome the fact that having really established that business, they should be able to compete and get all the cargo to themselves, and indeed if you have been operating and doing this service for years and now someone else is coming, you should have a favourable edge.”
NPA boss averred that Intels facility remains a “very tidy” investment and the infrastructure “deployed efficiently and effectively.”
According to the General Manager of Intels Nigeria Limited, Mr. Silvano Bellinato, “Intels has been a trusted partner to major oil and gas producing companies in Nigeria and a monumental logistic partner to the NPA in the development of ports infrastructure and service in Nigeria”.
Continuing, he said “In over 30 years, we have added substantial value to the Nigerian oil and gas service industry and the operators have found our services strategic to their operations.”
It would be recalled that earlier in the year, Intels won Nigeria’s Public Relations innovative awards, a mark showing the company’s seriousness towards corporate excellence and operational efficiency. Intels recently contributed about N1bn for the redevelopment of the massive access road to the zone from Port Harcourt which was adjudged a mega CSR in the sector.
