Lagos floods: Lekki, Ikoyi, other parts of Lagos remained in darkness on Monday
Though the yearly seven days rain which rounded off on Sunday evening gave way for minimal sunshine in parts of Lagos on Monday, several critical parts of the state are still suffering the impacts but not floods after all.
This time, the impact is darkness as the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) said the floods that resulted from the torrential rainfall on Saturday caused damage to some of its equipment in Lekki, Ikoyi, Ijora, Victoria Island and some other parts of Lagos metropolis under its coverage.
In a statement, the company said the floods caused water seepage into some sensitive and vital equipment, resulting in the shutdown of some distribution substations as well as some 11/33KV injection substations.
According to the General Manager, Corporate Communications, Mr. Godwin Idemudia, “some low tension and high tension poles and lines were also felled by the floods”.
Though technical experts in the company had since swung into action to clear all the faults within the shortest time possible, checks around affected parts Monday evening showed that several areas are yet to get their electricity restored.
According to EKEDC, “the injection substations affected by the floods included the Lekki Transmission Station and those in Agungi, Lekki, Ademola and Anifowoshe”.
“Victoria Garden City, Waterfront, Maroko and Oniru injection stations are completely out. We need to look at the extent of the effect of the flood on our equipment.
