Speaker, Bangladesh parliament, Chaudhury to address participants at digital summit
The Honourable Speaker of the Bangladesh Parliament, Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, will join international dignitaries and ICT experts at the Digital Bangladesh conference taking place on 7 – 8 March 2017 in Dhaka.
The conference, organised by the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO), will focus on cybersecurity as a key component of the country’s universal broadband and Internet access vision.
In a statement issued by CTO and emailed to Business Hilights, Shola Taylor, secretary-general of the CTO said “Tackling cybercrime within the telecom sector is a key element of the work the CTO is undertaking as part of our cybersecurity programme.”
“Digital Bangladesh will work with stakeholders from ICT operators, policymakers and the law enforcement community in Bangladesh to develop a framework for preventing or responding to cybercrime. This national conference will also examine ways of protecting young people online and I am delighted that Dr. Chaudhury can join us for this important event.”
Also, Taylor will deliver a keynote address on tackling cybercrime: a global imperative for a safe Internet at the opening ceremony.
Both top executives will be joined at the opening ceremony by other global experts including Begum Tarana Halim MP, Honourable State Minister, Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications & Information Technology, Dr Shahjahan Mahmood, Chairman, Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission and Areewan Haorangsi, Secretary-General, Asia-Pacific Telecommunity.
Other dignitaries expected to grace the summit include H.E. Ambassador Alice Blake, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Imran Ahmad MP, President, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications & Information Technology
Halim noted that “Tackling cybercrime is a key element to advancing Bangladesh’s digital agenda,” stressing that “This conference will develop a more coordinated response to cybercrime and we are pleased to partner with the CTO to develop our ICT capacity for the socio-economic benefit of the people of Bangladesh.”
Digital Bangladesh is being organised by the CTO in collaboration with the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications & Information Technology and the Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
Explaining on the conference, Taylor said “The dedication of our partners in realising the vision for this ambitious and important event is most impressive,” and commended the ministry and BTRC for their commitment to developing Bangladesh’s digital capacity.”
