Ndukwe flags off campaign to grow ICT hubs in S/East states

Former Executive Vice Chairman of Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and chairman Open Media Group, Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, has begun a strategic campaign to grow Information and Communications Technology (ICT) uptake and startups in the five South-East states of the country.

In the communiqué issued at the end of the maiden South East Technology Development (SE-TechDev) Summit in Enugu which drew some of the best brains in the information and communications technologies (ICT) sector.

The organizers made it clear that the essence of the summit is to create disruption in the South East and change Ndigbo perception on ICT starting from Enugu that has a rich academia base.

Ndukwe who served as chairman of the occasion, stated that the TechDev summit is a platform to accelerate technology development in the South East.

He said even though the region has done well I n auto spare parts trading, “We cannot be left in the changing world of ICT which holds the ace to future economy.

However, participants agreed that there was urgent need to excite and raise awareness to the potentials of ICT as an accelerator to economic development, wealth creation and youth employment/entrepreneurship

Key recommendation of the communiqué was the need for governor and education curriculum developers to immediately include and give ICT education a priority in the educational development of students from the region so as to be able to compete favourably with their mates in any part of the world.
