As part of his determination to drive Digital Switch Over (DSO) at least, in the South-East, Innoson Motors is set to send about 7,000 Nigerians to China for a technology transfer initiative between his group and a Chinese technology group, Shandong Broadcasting and Television.

The new move is part of readiness to lay better foundation and consolidate expansion of investment into Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sectors.

Business Hilights had exclusively reported last week that the group had secured a $300mn loan from aboard to venture into the mass production of Set Top Boxes ahead of the nation’s quest to meet the June 2017 DSO deadline.

Chairman of Innoson Group, Dr. Chukwuma Innocent, disclosed in Abuja after a meeting with the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, on the new partnership of the group with Chinese giant in the production of STBs.

On the performance of his motor manufacturing company, he revealed that there is a new effort towards getting a partner for engine manufacturing in Nigeria once the patronage level reaches a desirable level.

He said “We can establish the engine factory in Nigeria when we get a measure of patronage,” he said.

Responding, the Minister thanked him for creating jobs and trying to complement government’s efforts diversifying the economy.

“We are happy you have this partnership with China and the ministry is ready to support it. Innoson is helping in our economic transition to ensure we can produce what we use in Nigeria,” he said.

Onu thanked the leader of the Chinese delegation and Chairman of Shandong Broadcasting and Television, Liu Baoju, for having interest in the technology transfer deal.
