Dangote raises hope on hitting 2mmt of sugar yearly

Indigenous manufacturing concerns, Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc, a member of Dangote Group, yesterday said it plans to produce between 1.5 and 2 million metric tons of refined sugar annually from locally produced sugarcane.

This was coming from the Acting Group Managing Director, Mr Abdullahi Sule, at the 2016 World Food Day celebrations organised by Lagos State Government.

Represented by the company’s manager, Mr. Braimah Ogunwale, Sule noted that the target was in line with its backward integration master plan.

He said “Our efforts are geared towards the achievement of our backward integration projects master plan to produce 1.5 to 2 million metric tons of refined sugar annually from locally grown sugarcane within the next 10 years.

 “We have acquired and currently rehabilitating Savannah Sugar Company Ltd, Numan, Adamawa State to bring it to its full potential.

“Also, we are in the process of acquiring various sites across the country for our Greenfield Sugar projects, though very challenging, but we are focused on this goal”, he said.
