Apart from his defence that he came for the debate but could not take part because President Muhammadu Buhari did not come, analysts have holed out another strategic reason why the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar shunned the debate.
According to observers and followers of political antecedents trailing the fast approaching 2019 general elections, the trio of Dr Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili, Fela Durotoye, Kingsley Muoghalu and Omoyele Sowore had some months ago, agreed to form alliance and present one candidate.
The aim of pact was for them to work together. To unify and pick ONE of them to be the presidential candidate while the others throw their weights behind that ONE person.
They did some sort of primary to elect that ONE person and Fela Durotoye won.
Unfortunately, instead of honouring their gentleman pact at least to show that they as leaders can be lead also, they dumped their agreement and went their respective ways.
Business Hilights further gathered that Kingsley Moghalu and Sowore rejected the result of the selection and backed out. Oby was in charge of that selection, she too backed away to run her own campaign.
Key questions that have been asked by many include if people who couldn’t honour a simple PACT between themselves, people who couldn’t accept the result of an election they conducted within themselves, people who couldn’t unite to pursue a common goal; is it wise to join issues in debating the way forward for a country like Nigeria?
Observers say Atiku avoided their debate because they have shown inability to manage a microcosm of Nigeria b y even themselves by not abiding by the results of their self-conducted in-house election.
