FCC disappears on Irede site few weeks after demolitions, slight work on drainage
Heavy equipments seem to have disappeared along the construction site of the Irede Road, Off Bagadry Expressway less than two months after resumption of construction activities. Business Hilights can authoritatively report.
The road is slated for dualisation from Abule-osun Bus Stop to Irede community in Oriade LCDA, Amuwo Odofin.
Though efforts to see a staff of the handling firm, Fountain Construction Company (FCC) during a tour failed, residents alleged that FCC started gradual withdrawal of its machineries since the beginning of June without any word to them.
They explained that the demolition works on one side of the less than 2km road which peaked throughout April was followed by lying of drainage on the same side which is not yet completed before the disappearance of all equipments on site.
According to the contract notice board mounted at Abule-Osun Bus Stop, the job is expected to last for 12 months beginning from April this year to next year.
Additional details show that the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure which is the client is also the supervisory Ministry.
Some of the residents who spoke with our correspondents decried the sudden disappearance of the company from the site, saying only one or two carpenters are seen cutting logs for slabs that may be used to cover the drainage.
However, others argued that either the rains or payment may have been the reason for the disappearance of top officials and machineries on site few weeks after resumption. They believed that the current speed may not meet the delivery timetable of April 2018.
Besides, just as none of the FCC officials were sighted throughout for interview, a senior official of the Ministry who spoke to Business Hilights on Sunday on grounds of anonymity said “Currently I do not have the details of the road construction, but what I will assure you is that tomorrow, being Monday, I will find out form the Director in charge of Works and get back to you”.
