Recent visit to the $70m Oshodi Bus Terminal, located between the Lagos-Apapa Expressway and the Agege Motor Road, which started operation in May 2019, can only reveal decay, maintenance negligence and an infrastructure programmed to fail over time.

These observations are coming from the facts that there seems to be no clear cut maintenance culture on the massive facility, thus making both passengers and commuters to be skeptical in using conveniences which are now in terrible states.

Yes, the scheme was one of last administration’s signature schemes to flush away agberos and street miscreants off Oshodi, but the present government seems to have a different agenda for the taxpayers’ infrastructure after all.

Business Hilights gathered that by design, the Interchange is divided into three – Terminals 1, 2, and 3 with Terminal 1 for interstate transportation, designed for destinations spanning the South West, South East, Abuja, and Northern states.

Accordingly, each of the bus terminals has a lot of facilities which include loading bays, ticketing stands, driver lounges, parking areas, restrooms, and many others.

The terminal, which was constructed by a construction firm, Planet Projects Limited, was put in place to stop the embarrassing sights to first time visitors to Lagos who are driving in from the International Airport.

It was further gathered that when another media house reporter (name withheld) contacted the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, Abdulhafiz Toriola, he claimed that “We have a private facility manager, and we always monitor and inform them of our observation. It is a continuous effort and we will do that again. The poor infrastructure will be fixed, we will contact the private facility manager for that.”
