Motorists have raised alarm over the growing number of portholes on Third Mainland bridge in Lagos.
There had been several repairs on the over 30 year’s infrastructure both by the federal and state government at intervals depending on the level of disrepairs.
The last one was carried out in April 2023 by the Lagos state government according to a statement by the state commissioner for transportation Dr. Fredrick Oladeyinde.
However, due to public outcries, the state government is working on repairing identified failed and peeled asphaltic sections.
The state government said though the bridge fell under the jurisdiction of the federal roads maintenance agency, it had to move in to repair the inbound-outbound sections along the University of Lagos axis due to vehicular tail back and the danger posed by the level of damage to motorists. Despite these interventions, reports reveal that the motorist have been enduring effects of pot-holes in the bridge noticeable on the Obalende to Adakunle stretch of the bridge they are also noticeable while approaching the bridge from Ebutemeta. Contacted; the director of information federal roads maintenance agency, Mrs. Mariam Sanusi said the team would be sent to ascertain the current condition of the bridge admitting that pot-holes pose a safety risk.
