Glo-sponsored African Voices celebrates Moroccan-American star, MC French Montana

This week’s edition of the Glo sponsored African Voices Changemakers on CNN, profiles Moroccan-American rapper, M.C. French Montana.

MC French Montana, also known as Karim Kharbouch, was born on 9 November 1984 and is a well-known rapper with 41 platinum hits to his name so far in his burgeoning career.

Larry Madowo, the anchor of African VoicesChangemakers, caught up with him at his home in Los Angeles. He also accompanied the multi-platinum selling singer to New York for the debut of his new documentary on his journey from a struggling immigrant to a multimillionaire superstar.

The 38-year-old superstar, who moved with his family to the US when he was 13, started Cocaine City Records and Coke Boys Records. In 2012, he subsequently inked a combined recording contract with Rick Ross’s Maybach Music Group and Puff Daddy’s Bad Boy Records.

His smash single “Quarter to Eight” was the first of many times he would work with famed musician Rick Ross. He has received numerous honors, including the Best Club Banger Award, which he won at the 2013 BET Hip Hop Awards. Additionally, he received two nominations for the Grammy Awards’ Best Rap Song category in 2016 and one nomination for Best Rap Performance in 2017.

The programme comes up on DSTV Channel 401 on Saturday at 2:00 PM, with repeats at 4.30 AM and 7.30 PM on Sunday. The episode will be broadcast again the following Saturday at 12.30 p.m., 4.30 a.m., and Sunday at 7.30 p.m.
