Enugu dethrones defending champion, OAU to win ASPMDA Unity Cup

It was excitement, action-packed and breathtaking match at the First Bank Playground, Satellite Town Lagos as Enugu Coal City FC beat the defending champion, OAU to win the 2023 ASPMDA Geo-political Unity Cup by 2:1.

Enugu took the lead in the first 12 minutes via the spot kick but OAU came back within the same half when it converted a free kick with a header before end of first half.

Whereas the half time was used by the organisers to give out honours awards to deserving members of ASPMDA including Chief Kizito Onyenna and others, second half was full of action.

However, midway into the half, Enugu Coal City went up again via a converted corner kick and maintained the lead with observed tactical delays by its goal keeper until the match ended to win the 2023 championship.

Speaking to journalists at the end of the match, ASPMDA President, Hon. Ngozi Emechebe described the game as no winner, no vanquish.

While congratulating both teams for good show of sportsmanship, he thanked the organisers for a job well done.

Also speaking, the donor and ASOMDA Sports Ambassador, Chief Oliver Jacob (Chukkol) said the tournament is now fully back will now continue yearly God willing. He congratulated all the 13 competing teams for their determination and hailed the winner for remaining disciplined.
