Max Air in Nigeria has welcomed its first Boeing B777. The plane touched ground on 11 June 2023.
The aircraft, B777-246 5N-BBN (27653), arrived at Kano after a ferry flight that routed Marana (AZ), Tucson (AZ), and Bangor (MN).
It’s the first Triple Seven for the airline, according to Sramble (Dutch Aviation Society).
“Before joining Max Air, this B777 was operated by Japan Airlines as JA773J between May 2007 and February 2021. This means that Max Air acquired the plane after about 16 years of use by Japan Airlines.
“Interesting to note is, that it still features decals of its special “Tokyo 2020, Fly for it!”
“Next to its new plane, Max Air’s fleet consists of five B737-300s, one B737-400, two B747-400s, one ERJ135, and one ERJ145.”
The good news is coming after initial reports of the plane declaring emergency on its flight to Kano.
A report by aviationa2z.com had said that the Nigerian-based Max Air (VM) Flight operating a new Boeing 777 delivery plane from Bangor, US, to Kano (KAN), Nigeria, made an emergency landing at Casablanca (CMN) Airport.
It said in the report that Max Air Limited was an established airline known for its strong reputation, reliability, and commitment to safety.

“Our unwavering dedication drives us to aspire to be recognized as a formidable player among the world’s leading airlines.”
According to Flight Radar 24, the Max Air Boeing 777 took off from Bangor International Airport (BGR), US, at 9:08 AM UTC. The aircraft in Midway declared an emergency. Further, it diverted to Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca (CMN) at 3:06 PM UTC.
The aircraft is expected to land at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (KAN), but the plane diverted to CMN due to unknown circumstances.
The aircraft involved in the incident is the Boeing 777-200. Further, it has the registration 5N-BBN and is a 16.1-year-old aircraft.
The aircraft was first delivered to Japan Airlines (JL) back in 2007.
Subsequently, it was then delivered to Jet Midwest, Alta Airlines Holdings, and TVPX holdings before being delivered to VM.
The reason for diversion can be related to some sort of technical problem. Luckily, it is the delivery flight, so no passengers were onboard.
