Tinubu fires CBN Gov., Emefiele, begins investigations on his regulatory rascality
Incumbent Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces and President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Friday evening, June 9, 2023, suspended the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, CFR, from office with immediate effect.
A terse statement signed by Mr. Willie Bassey, Director, Information, For: Secretary to the Government of the Federation and made available to Business Hilights said “This is sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.
“Mr Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of investigation and the reforms.”
Recall that Emefiele had been enmeshed in the murky waters of Nigerian presidential election contest which he even went to court to argue even while in office as CBN Governor.
As if that was not enough, he went ahead to smuggle in naira redesign policy at the eve of a general election which nearly collapsed the economy as Nigerians were caught in the web of buying naira with naira due to his unplanned cashless policy implementation.
