Trade Fair Stakeholders Demand new high-powered transformer from NERC, Eko Disco
Considering the endless electricity crisis rocking the entire Lagos International Trade Fair complex, the umbrella body for the over 17 business associations plying their trade at the massive complex along Badagry Expressway, the Trade Fair Stakeholders’ Association (TFSA), has written a letter to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), demanding fresh and high-powered transformer.
In the letter written by its legal adviser, Kehinde Yekeen & Co., and sighted by Business Hilights, TFSA noted that whereas the level of business activities in the complex has outgrown the original 2.5MVA at the complex sub-station, several efforts it has been making for upper grade transformer have not yielded result, hence the need to demand a higher grade transformer that can carry the current business activities at the complex.

TFSA therefore demanded transformer that is up to 7.5MVA or even higher as the growth in business activities at the complex is still on the high side in the future.
Speaking on the letter in an interview, the chairman of TFSA and incumbent president of Association of Progressive Traders (APT), Chief Eric Ilechukwu (Akunwafor-Anyirico), he averred that “We have been making serious efforts to raise power level in the complex for the good of everyone to grow his or her business. We now want a brand new transformer that will end all the stories we have been hearing on power in the complex once and for all.”
According to him, “Our legal adviser has sent the letter, it has been received and its now receiving official attention. However, we will not stop there. We will from Monday next week, send a delegation to NERC Marina office to follow up the letter until we get a new functional transformer here at the complex.
Speaking on the matter, ASPMDA President, Hon. Ngozi Emechebe said “All of us are disturbed on the poor power presence in the complex and it is badly affecting our businesses. So we have to make serious efforts under the Stakeholders to work together in making sure we solve the electricity crisis once and for all. We are aware that a higher 7.5 Line is at Abule Ado and all we are asking if for Power officials to connect us to Abule-Ado direct to the high transmission line or give us brand new transformer.
Commenting, another ASPMDA official and Stakeholder member, Hon. Tony Maduadichie (Adidas) said he is aware of the letter written to NERC and as from next week, his team will begin to follow up the letter at Marina until we get a new transformer that will adequately serve the entire Trade Fair complex and businesses in the massive complex.
He thanked the chairman of ASPMDA BoT, Chief Dr. DC Offorkansi for joining in the struggle for the better power situation in ASPMDA in particular and Trade Fair in general and called on ASPMDA members and all traders on the entire complex to give the power committee the needed support to succeed.
