SON’ll continue to partner ATV in standard tyre supplies, sales—SON DG
The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON), Mallam Farouk Salim has once again, assured the continuation of strategic partnership with the Association of Nigeria Tyre Marketers (ANTM), owners of Africa Tyre Village (ATV), Lagos International Trade Fair complex.
Speaking in his goodwill message at a one-day sensitization campaign at the Tyre Village organised by SON on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, the DG represented by the Director, Inspectorate and Compliance Directorate (ICD), Alhaji Isa Sulleiman said “I still recall with amazement the very strategic courtesy visit paid me by the ATV when I was appointed many years ago and can affirm that the good relationship between us will continue for years based on the high compliance of the association to tyre standards.
According to him, “We take on this enlightenment campaign to continue to educate Nigerians on the merits of quality products. Since 1971, SON has continued to stress and maintain standards in products deliveries with the aim of safeguarding the lives of the nation and the economy.
He therefore advised the association never to renege in dealing on quality and standard products.
Earlier in his address of welcome, the President of ANTM, Alhaji Issah Akanbi Mohammed welcomed SON DG and his entourage and assured that his association has and will continue to have zero-tolerance on substandard tyres and accessories.
He explained that such enlightenment campaigns by SON from time to time will continue to keep alive their spirit of maintaining standards and added that the union is happy hosting the regulator.
The President made a passionate appeal to the Federal government look into the dangerous trend where some international tyre manufacturers instead of only remaining in their manufacturing business, come into Nigeria on the guise of foreign investors only to rent shops and start selling both wholesale and retail of tyres thereby pushing our members out of business. He advised the government to only allow foreign investors to either come in and build their factories or remain in their countries’ while we come to import from them.
In his goodwill message, the Vice President, hon. Okechukwu Ezeifeoma called on the SON to see how it can interfere for the association in other sister agencies like the Nigerian Customs who usually give members of the association tough times in clearing their goods especially the Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Ikeja.
Continuing, he further advised Nigerian motoring public to always use new tyre products for the sake of safety and driving satisfaction always.
In his lead demonstration presentation, Mr. Adeyinka Adetoyin, who spoke extensively on the theme; ‘Vehicle Tyres: Quality and management for Effectiveness,’ explained that there is no match for use of standard tyres on vehicles. He noted that use of quality tyre extends the life of both the vehicle and the owner.
Business Hilights reports that the sensitization programme was graced by top officials several auto related federal agencies including the FRSC, VIO, NSCDC, and others.
Also at the programme were top officials of the umbrella body of the Trade Fair Stakeholders’ Association (TFSA) led by APT President, Chief Eric Illechukwu, General Secretary, Mayor Kenneth Ugboajah, former President of APT, Chief Ringo, Financial Secretary of TFSA, Hon. Osita Ekpunobi and other dignitaries at the Lagos International Trade fair complex.
