Earlier during the presidential campaign era, former Governor of Anambra State and standard bearer of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi was blocked with arms opened in a campaign traffic in Lagos by a street boy, called Yusuf Alabi from Oyo State.
Rather than ordering his security details to do away with the poor boy, Obi ordered his convoy to stop and he kept looking at the boy for some moments before the boy eased away in happiness.
However, the story did not stop there. After the campaign, Obi traced the boy and identified with him as one of the detriabalized Nigerians in need of a new Nigeria.
When the former Governor was asked what was on his mind at the time of the stoppage by Boy Alabi, he said “As he gazed at me, I saw hope, determination, love and passion. My belief in the need and urgency of a New Nigeria was strengthened. Please note that he didn’t stand so radically and bold because I am his uncle, an Ibo Man or a Christian
Peter Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State is one of the leading presidential candidates in the recently-conducted presidential election. He was defeated in the race by the standard flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The former Governor of Anambra State has however inaugurated his legal team to challenge the victory of the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He alleged that the presidential election results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC were manipulated in favour of the former Governor of Lagos State.
Peter Obi, in a statement released to the public ahead of tomorrow’s governorship and House of Assembly elections, recalled what he noticed when a Yoruba boy Yusuf Alabi stood in front of his moving car during the presidential election campaigns.
He said; “For instance, undaunted amidst all odds, Yusuf Alabi stood in front of my moving car with his two hands fully stretched! I was tired that day but in him, I was re-energized.
However, on the case of the current Deputy Senate President and guber candidate of the APC in Delta State, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, as soon as middle-aged man appeared in front of his campaign convoy, he did not waste any time in opening his car-owner’s side door and immediately stretched his hand ordering the man out of the moving vehicle.
Many Nigerians see a sharp contrast between his response and that of the Labour Party presidential hopeful.
