Just in: Zenith Bank shuts down in states over collapsed epayment channels
Fact checks and reports across several states and major commercial cities in Nigeria have shown that Tier 1 financial institution, Zenith Bank Plc was shut down from rendering any form of services to its customers including the head office located on Ajose Adeogun Street, Victoria Island, Lagos State.
The development is not unconnected with collapsed network which has crippled all electronic payment channels of the bank.
States affected by the shutdown include Delta, Edo, Ondo, Lagos, Rivers, Kano, Imo, Abia, Kogi, FCT, Kwara and including key cities in other states.
A credible source at the Ajose Adeogun headquarters of the bank confided in Business Hilights that the alleged nationwide shutdown was necessitated by observed customers attacks on its buildings and on staff as a result of the frustrations due to the non-availability of the newly redesigned naira notes, the new cash withdrawal limits rules, as well as largely nonfunctional Automated Teller Machines (ATM) and failures in epayment channels.
Already, a viral video showing where staff were escaping via scaling fences to avoid angry mob attack.
However, the bank is yet to make an official statement on the development.
