After years of complaints and agitation by shipping stakeholders’ on the need to join other parts of the world in digital port business, the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has finally installed scanners at Lagos seaports.
In an interview granted a national Radio Station by the PRO of Tin Can Customs, Mr Uche Ejesieme, the Service revealed that the new scanners have been installed at the port and they are only waiting for the official launch by the Customs leadership as soon as possible.
Before now, Business Hilights recalls that physical examination of containers had been the major cause of demurrages at ports as stockpiles of awaiting containers takes huge time and weeks to be cleared.
But explaining during the interview, Ejesieme averred that with the new scanners, it will take not up to one minute to examine and clear both 20 and 40 feet containers.
