A clear fact has emerged on why all the aviation labour unions agreed that the move by the Minister of Aviation, Captain Hadi Sirika to concession five busiest airports in is never idea, but the minister’s personal agenda.
Otherwise, as it is now, the Federal Government and the four major unions in the nation’s aviation industry may be heading for a collision course over plans by the Federal Ministry of Aviation to concession four airports in Abuja, Port Harcourt and Kano and Lagos.
The labour unions got enraged on hearing about last week’s issuance of Certificate of Compliance by the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) to the Minister of Aviation, which further showed government’s approval for the proposed concession.
Business Hilights recalls that Senator Sirika, had received the ICRC certification on June 25, to proceed with the airports concession.
But the aggrieved unions including NUATE, Air Transport Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals (ANAP), argued in strong terms, what they explained as abuse of government committee report on the matter.
They accused the minister of pursuing his personal agenda without referencing a committee set up by the Federal Government on the airport concessioning.
