Inaugural Vice President and chairman of the Constitution drafting Committee of the Nigeria Information Technology Reporters’ Association (NITRA), Prince Stan Okenwa has welcomed the new set of executives of the media group recently elected in Lagos.

Speaking on the election that was conducted through electronic voting (e-Voting), Prince Okenwa, who is the President of Media Hilights Group, publishers of Business Hilights online, Markets Business Hilights Newspapers and Business Hilights Intelligence Unit (BHIU), hailed the Electoral Committee for coming up with the digital idea and advised chairman and Secretary of the Committee to see how they can approach the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for transfer of the technology.

According to him, “If NITRA electoral committee can transfer the seamless electronic voting technology used in the successful NITRA election, INEC can build on it and possibly deploy electronic voting infrastructure for the 2023 elections.

“I say this because I think Nigeria is ripe for electronic voting. All the National Assembly needs to do is to amend the current Electoral Act to allow for e-voting and in the process save the country from all the violence and collation crisis that have characterised the nation’s election over the years.

Addressing the new NITRA Exco led by Mr Chike Onwuegbuchi, the DG of Digital Economy Media Support Volunteers’ (DEMS Volunteers’) congratulated the new team and advised them to hit the ground running with innovative programmes that will not only grow the association, but return the association to the glory of industry reportage and agenda setting which it was known for during his time in office as the Vice President.

The new NITRA Exco is made up of the Chairman, Mr. Chike Onwuegbuchi (Communications Week publications), Financial Secretary, Mr. Justus Adejumoh (Daily Independent), Assistant Secretary, Bukola Olarenwaju (Business Remarks), Treasurer, Mrs. Chioma Obiora-Ezike (FRCN), and Mr. Chidiebere Nwankwo, who reports for one of the online outfits, was returned elected as the chief scribe of the media body.

Recall that NITRA is one of the leading affiliates of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), the lead labour union for Nigerian media practitioners whose current president is Comrade Chris Isiguzo.
