Following Senate Friday’s confirmation of the appointment of Dr. Kingsley Obiora as a Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), he is expected to officially resume duties at the glass house today, Monday, February 3, 2020.

Recall that the Senate had relied on the recommendations of the report of the Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions that screened him on Wednesday to approve his fitness for the job on Friday last week.

President Muhammadu Buhari had in a letter to the Senate on January 16, 2020, nominated Dr Kingsley Isitua Obiora as a Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Born 43 years ago, Obiora holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Statistics from the University of Benin, a Masters degree in Economics from the University of Ibadan and a doctorate degree in Monetary and International Economics also from the University of Ibadan.

Before his appointment, Dr Obiora had been with the World Bank, adviser to both the President and the current CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

By his appointment, Dr Obiora becomes the youngest deputy governor ever appointed at the apex bank of the country.
