Barely one month after a crude oil vessel, Nave Constellation was attacked on Nigerian territorial waters with about 19 crew members kidnapped, leading maritime conglomerate and investor in Nigeria, Maersk, has announced deadly attack on its staff living in Lagos.
While keeping sealed lips on the staff name, the international company said in a terse on Monday that “We are very sorry to confirm that a colleague and his family have been attacked in their residence in Lagos, Nigeria during the evening of 8 December 2019. Tragically, the wife of our colleague passed away at the scene.
“Our colleague is in the hospital, where his condition is critical, but stable. The 3 children are all safe and accounted for.
The statement signed by Richard Smith, for Maersk Nigeria, added that “Our thoughts and deepest sympathy goes to the family. We will do whatever we can to support them in this tragedy,” says David Williams, Regional Managing Director of Africa for A.P. Moller – Maersk.
“The relatives of the family are in the process of being notified.
Additional details from the statement made available to Business Hilights in Lagos, revealed that “Relevant authorities are investigating the incident,” revealing further that “Maersk is supporting the investigation in every possible way.”
Though Police announced yesterday that it has arrested two suspects over the incident, efforts to reach the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), and NIMASA for further update failed at press time.
