Just in: Aba women reenact 1929 women riot 90 years after over bad roads
In view of the endless outcries on the current state of internal roads in Abia to the Governor of Abia state, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu by business operators, men and women in Aba and environs without results, earlier today, Tuesday, October, 08, 2019, a group of women in Aba metropolis staged a peaceful demonstration.
The women in their crusade while displaying their banner matching along some of the roads in Aba, said living and moving around in Aba is no more bearable due to bad state of the roads ranging from dilapidated ones to many of them taken over by solid wastes that are not attended to.
There had not been any form of official response by the state government.
Business Hilights recalls that in 1929, leading women traders in Aba, staged a riot in condemnation of taxes imposed on them by colonial masters. Though many of them were killed, their riot paid off as the planned taxation was reversed.
