It was interesting happenstance as lawmakers in the Anambra State House of Assembly Wednesday, rejected out rightly, move by the State Government to purchase foreign made Toyota Prado jeeps for them.
Some of them who spoke to journalists on the official rejection of the capital flight gesture by the Governor Wille Obiano administration, said time have come for governments to practice what they preach to the Nigerian populace.
They argued that it will amount to lack of intelligence, wickedness and anti-government policy for the state lawmakers to purchase any kind of vehicles that can be produced not only in Nigeria, but in the state aboard.
Accordingly, they unanimously adopted to use Innoson products, saying the state government must follow suit in adopting the state’s product so as to send the right signals to the Federal Government and other states.
Before now, no government including the host state and Federal Government has preferred homemade cars as official cars since the comatose state of Peugeot Assembly of Nigeria (PAN).
Analysts say with the kind of position already taken by Anambra lawmakers, there are chances that the Federal Government and others may follow which will in the long run deepen the production capacity of the surviving indigenous car manufacturing giant based in Nnewi, Anambra State.
