Yahoo boys arrested in Owerri on Monday, August 26, 2019
Not less than weeks after the first operation that led to mass arrest of internet fraudsters in Owerri, the Imo State capital, operatives of the Abuja and Enugu Zonal Offices of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, August 26 2019, arrested another set of 33 in the same city.
Business Hilights South East Bureau chief reports that the suspects were apprehended in a well coordinated surveillance at their hideout across hotels and choice but secluded residential houses in the early morning hit.
It was not clear if the US internet fraud suspect seen in a trending photo with the former State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, is behind the escalation of the dastardly act in the capital city having come of the area.
The suspects according the anti graft agency include Clinton Emere, Obinna Okonkwo, Ogochukwu Ogbonna, Joseph Udom Kousin, Prince Ewunone, Franklin Michael, Tolli Ameiche, Anderson, Berthel, David Franklin, Aboi Etealu, Chinubu Nwosu, Marizu Chidiebere, Dominic Terry Joseph, Christopher Nwosu, Peter Gift Uche, Edinalo Ifeanyichukwu , Ndubuisi Ikenna, John Frank, Anowe Precious, Joseph Levi Chima, Samuel Oria, Tochi Mmerom, Chimezia Cleansman, Okonkwo Obinna, Uchendu Gift, Nkwodi Nnamdi, Izywa Munachi, Ekone Aniche, Opara Donald, Aniche Tochukwu, Anelka Okon and Ebizien Franklin Udochukwu.
Items recovered from them include laptop computers, mobile phones, 2 Lexus RX350 SUV and a Toyota Solara salon car.
EFCC revealed in a statement that the suspects have made useful statements and will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
Recall that since last week, a trending list on number of Nigerian online fraudsters’ tracked down by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) in the US has continued to hobble the international image of the nation.
