Though the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo had parleyed with leaders of thought in the South West in the wake of skyrocketing highway related terrorism and kidnapping in the zone by suspected Fulani herdsmen, the new security architecture to be anchored on installing CCTV on highways and forests has came under serious criticisms and mixed reactions.
Many respondents, who barred their minds in a Vox-Pop carried out by Business Hilights weekend, were quick to query the chances of the functionality of any CCTV along bushy highways and forests when those earlier installed across the seat of power, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and in Lagos, under former Governor Babatunde Fashola all failed to work or transmit signals to their servers.
The respondents all agreed that the most effective way to deal with crimes like highway kidnapping is to punish perpetrators so that others would know what awaits them.
Besides, they argued that if the perpetrators are proved beyond reasonable doubt that they belong to a particular vocation, it should be proscribed and designated as a terrorist organization than beating about the bush and embarrassing the collective intelligence of the region and other parts of the country where the act is holding sway.
