Leading telecoms giant, MTN Nigeria Plc, yesterday expressed readiness to continue their claims of innocence over allegations of tax irregularities leveled against it by the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) whenever the case is called up for continuation in the Federal High Court.
At the resumed hearing on Wednesday, lawyers representing the AGF sought for long adjournment which was granted by the trial judge to October 29, 2019.
Recall that the company had approached a Federal High Court shortly the AGF alleged that it had evaded tax obligations to the tune of $2bn in importation of materials used for its network upgrade at some point.
MTN had in September last year, said the tax demand is without merit and the attorney general has exceeded his powers in making the request.
In a terse statement made available to Business Hilights after the adjournment, MTN averred that “We are confident in the Nigerian court system and the rule of law and look forward to presenting our case at the earliest possible opportunity.
The company insisted further that “MTN Nigeria maintains its stand that we are in full compliance with all extant tax and regulatory obligations. We reiterate our commitment to obeying all Nigerian laws, rules and regulations that govern and guide our business practices”.
