Just in: Africa now has a corporate history to behold, build upon—Elumelu
…As discussants seek return of history to Nigeria, African educational curriculum
Africapitalism crusader and chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA), Mr Tony Elumelu, today, averred that “African corporate narrative is not only changing but has changed the growth narrative, history and competition with other continents”.
Speaking at the UBA Africa Day Celebration held at the UBA House, Marina, he revealed that contrary to hitherto unattractive corporate history of Africa, the continent now has emerging companies of international repute that clearly represent the true future of the continent in an encouraging language.
Giving example with the history of UBA which he said now has a strong base in both Africa and beyond, he averred that “Today, UBA is doing business in over 20 African economies with over 20 million customers which in effect gives the company the future of an emerged commercial giant”.
“Apart from UBA, we have the likes of Dangote Group also doing Africa proud and sending the right investment signals to the outside world.
He said time has come for Africa to remember their history of entrepreneurship and redefine same with emerging narratives of technology and international relations going forward.
Majority of the speakers who came from far and wide across Africa spoke vehemently on reinventing the African history of togetherness so as to deepen the reality of African union.
Nigerians at the discussion segment decried the danger of removing history from the educational curriculum and called for immediate return to the nation’s educational development so as to give our young ones the benefit of understanding where we are coming from in order to guide them in taking building the nation.
Discussants came from several African countries including Mali, Senegal, Ghana, South Africa and many others to mark UBA Africa Day celebration held at the Amphitheatre inside UBA House, Marina.
