Chances of having a repeat of presidential telephone call to congratulate the winner in the February 23rd election has been ruled out following the position of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar at a World press Conference in Abuja shortly after President Muhammadu Buhari and his running mate, received their certificates of return from INEC.
While calling for calm amongst PDP members and supporters, Atiku described instances of figures discrepancies as a grand theft of the will of Nigerians orchestrated by the ruling party and INEC against the clear wish of Nigerians for getting Nigeria working again.
Abubakar, who defined democracy as a government of the people by the people only when the people’s choice prevailed, averred that “That did not happen on Saturday, February 23, 2019. On Election Day, we saw the implementation of grand theft of the people’s will.
“In Akwa Ibom, for instance, the results showed a statistical impossibility of a 62 per cent drop in voter numbers from the 2015 elections, even where voter registration and PVC collection rates were much higher than in 2015. This is where voter suppression took place.
“Our party made these observations and complaints before the elections that there were plans to implement voter suppression on PDP or opposition strongholds and voter increase in APC strongholds.”
Atiku further queried why upon the fear of insurgency in parts of the North which ordinarily should have affected turnout; there were massive votes for the APC without any report of attacks or usual voter apathy in troubled areas.
He revealed that his team has all the real figures of results from across the state and will be dishing them out at the right time.
According to him, he and his party are continuing in consultation and will make public their line of official response to the election results very soon.
