MTN, others to seek renewal of 2G licenses in Ghana by December

Considering that all telecoms licenses in Ghana have 15 years life span years, MTN and Vodafone will go for the renewal of their 2G licenses which are due to expire December 2019.
Business Hilights Ghana Bureau chief gathered that Tigo would have been due for renewal of its 2G license this, but because of the merger with Airtel, it gained some two years grace period under the wings of Airtel till October 2021.
On 3G licenses, all four operators, including MTN, Vodafone, AirtelTigo and Glo, are due for the renewal in January, 2024.
Checks on how telecoms licence renewal is done in Ghana showed that any network that wishes to renew their license must put in an application three months before the license expires to the National Communications Authority (NCA).
Also, for telecoms firms that do not wish to renew their license must give the regulator three years’ notice to avoid breach of the prevailing exit regulation.
