Though uptake of produced electricity popularly referred to as evacuation remained an intractable issue at Egbin Power plant in Lagos, all is set for uploading of 1,320MW to the national grid before the end of this month. This was the revelation of the Group Managing Director, Sahara Power Group, Kola Adesina.
Recall that Egbin plant, which is the largest power generating station in Nigeria with an installed capacity of 1,320MW consists of six units of 220MW each.
The plant is currently generation about 543 MW to the national grid.
Giving an update on the activities of the power giant, during the induction of 39 young engineers into a development programme under the guidance of the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN), Adesina said electricity generation from Egbin power plant has been limited by evacuation problem.
According to him, “We can do today 880MW but the limitation of evacuation is what is restricting it to 543MW as we speak. But as a company, availability of Egbin power plant will be up to 1,320MW at the end of February.”
The company further revealed that “with the new technology is has procured, Egbin plant would soon increase its output by an additional 1,900MW, raising electricity generation to approximately 3,200MW’.
