After the preliminary arguments over his self-acclaimed Red Card given to him by the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Governor Samuel Ortom Wednesday, July 25, 2018 afternoon dumped the party for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This is coming barely 24 hours after about 14 APC Senators and 37 House members dumped the same party before proceeding a two-week break yesterday.
The governor had last week announced the red card which shocked and forced the party national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to reach out to him for the settlement of the crisis that is forcing him out.
From the look of things, Oshiomhole’s scheming failed to retain the governor.
Business Hilights gathered that the defection came after walking to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) and observing that truly, he has been tactically red-carded both in practice and principle to leave the ‘Party Cup Final match’ ahead of 2019 elections.
While announcing his defection, he noted that many APC stalwarts in the state were “ready to join” him in PDP.
Already, he has forwarded the letter of his resignation from the All Progressives Congress to his ward chairman.
Ortom was elected on the platform of the ruling APC in 2015, but political pundits traced part of his grievances to the way and manner the federal government may had handled the spate of killings in Benue State following his resistance to step down Anti-Open grazing Law.
Besides, another conspiracy theory has it that his defection may not be unconnected with an endless rift between him and APC leader in the state, George Akume.
