E-PAAN plans workshop on promoting digital literacy to drive financial inclusion
Leading Nigerian digital payment stakeholders’ group, the E-Payment Providers Association of Nigeria (E-PPAN), has concluded arrangements in Lagos to train ICT Editors and media executives on strategic issues bordering on deepening financial inclusion.
The event, 1st Annual Media Workshop themed: ‘Promoting Digital Literacy fo Enhance Public Confidence and Financial Inclusion’, is scheduled for May 31st, 2018 by 8.00 a.m. – 1.00 p.m. The venue for this year’s workshop is The Zone, Plot 9, Gbagada Industrial Scheme, Beside UPS, Gbagada Expressway, Gbagada Lagos.
In a statement, the group noted that “Across the globe, the success report from our digital payment system is second to none. The payment system in Nigeria for the last five years has evolved tremendously and has really become almost an example to what can be done internationally”.
“The workshop will also serve as a platform to celebrate the achievements of the payment system which has remained unsung for several years despite the tremendous growth experienced.
Continuing, E-PPAN averred that “As part of our contribution to the effective growth of the payment system in Nigeria, E-PPAN is galvanizing and leading the e-payment industry in collaboration with CBN, NIBSS, NITRA and NATCOMS to improve the knowledge and capacity gaps among several media stakeholders at this years’ national workshop”.
“It is designed to espouse the several media practitioners and channels as a means for continued advocacy for the payment industry to boost public confidence in the adoption of the formal financial system and its technologies.
E-PPAN recalled that presently, the total number of BVN in Nigeria is about 31 million in a country of over 96 million bankable individuals, stressing that “this is an indication of gaps to fill within the payment ecosystem”.
The e-Payment stakeholders’ are convinced that such annual training and explanation of trending issues around the digital payment space in Nigeria is key to achieving our desirous goal and feat in the nation’s growing e-Payment industry.
