As political permutations, alignment and realignment thickens ahead of 2019 general elections, former leaders are beginning to renew their linkages.

Just as a section of northern leaders weekend visited former military president Ibrahim Babangida who assured them that any effort in line to make Nigeria remain one will be supported by him, on Tuesday, a former Secretary to the Federal Government, and the national chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Chief Olu Falae visited former president Olusegun Obasanjo to look at current affairs of the country.

In his remarks before waiting journalists shortly after the two hours closed door meeting at Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, Chief Falae who described Obasanjo as his former boss, argued that the affairs of the country were greater than anybody’s political ambition.

Falae averred that “I am here to visit Papa Olusegun Obasanjo, former head of military government and former President of Nigeria who was my boss when I was the permanent secretary at the presidency. I have to come to see him about the affairs of Nigeria”.

“The affairs of Nigeria are greater than the political ambition of anybody. So I came here to exchange views with Baba.”

Though details were not revealed, analysts say the meeting has strong coloration to what happened in Minna few days ago and other issues of national importance ahead of 2019 election especially now President Muhammadu Buhari has declared interest to re-contest, contrary to the spirit of Obasanjo’s open letter to him in the first quarter of this year.
