IT pundits in Ghana seek information sharing to deepen cyber-security architecture
As part of concerted efforts to raise safety limits on issues of malware and related attacks associated with cyber-security challenges, Ghanaian Information Technology (IT) experts are now calling for information sharing to strengthen cybersecurity in the economy.
Business Hilights Ghana Bureau chief who was at the panel discussion organised by the Internet Society Ghana Chapter (ISOC Ghana), quoted experts as saying that information sharing on the activities of cyber-attackers was very critical in improving the state of cybersecurity for industries, corporate organisations and governments.
The panel members include Mr. Eric Akomeah, Director of Operations at the National Information Technology Agency (NITA); Mr Marcus K. G. Adomey, President ISOC Ghana; Mr Philemon Hini, Cyber Analyst at the e-Crime Bureau and Mr Kenneth Adu-Amanfoh, Director, IT, National Communications Authority (NCA).
According to the presentation by Government Cybersecurity Adviser, Mr Albert Antwi-Boasiako, on the topic; ‘Cybersecurity in Ghana Solutions and Challenges’, he said all hands must be on deck in the fight against cyber attacks because attack on one is attack on all.
In a communiqué issued, participants averred that “Although we live in competitive business world, it was critical that corporate entities to share information on cyber-attacks with their counterparts at a platform level; which would go a long way to help others to fortify their systems against future attacks”.
They cited that banks would share such information with their contemporaries through a platform created by the Bank of Ghana (BoG), concurring that “No matter how prepared an organisation might be, there would always be an attack from cyber-criminals it may or may not survive hence the need for synergy in fighting cyber crimes in Ghana”.
