Signals have started to emerge from the construction site of the four-kilometre Apapa-Wharf Road that the delivery time, originally planned for end of 2018 may not stand any longer.
Rather, analysts are looking beyond 2019, considering the volume of distractions’ so far met during the preliminary stage of the work handled by AG Dangote Construction Company Ltd.
The project has a completion period of one year, and is funded by AG Dangote Construction Company Ltd., the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and Flour Mills of Nigeria.
Findings showed that seven months after the Minister of Power, Works and Housing (FMPWH), Mr. Babatunde Fashola signed a N4.34 billion Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AG Dangote Construction Company Ltd., and some other stakeholders which included the Nigerian Ports Authority, for the reconstruction of the four-kilometre Apapa-Wharf Road, effective construction work can be said to have finally begun this week.
The deal was sealed in the presence of the Minister on June 17, 2017, but late discovery of piles of underground utility cables, gas pipelines and other strategic infrastructure delayed the takeoff as care is being taken to relocate the underground infrastructure on the axis.
